SREES PARTICIPATED IN TRIBAL ARTISAN MELA (TAM) at ETURNAGARAM

A Tribal Artisan Mela Ws held at Eturnagaram which was organized by TRIFED, a premier central agency of ministry of Tribal Affairs. The agency is mainly engaged with the development and marketing of tribal handcrafts and natural products. The main mandate of TRIFED is capacity enhancement of tribal, promotion of tribal products and creation of marketing opportunities for the tribal people with a view to censuring them remunerative prices for their products and augmenting their income on a sustainable basis, an official statement said.The idea behind organising this Expo is to provide a platform for tribal artisans to showcase their rich and ethnic art and craft. Tribal artisans from all over the country bring their beautiful creation in metal, terracotta, textile, bamboo, jewellery, forest products, it said.
                       
This expo is an effort not only to promote the tribal products but also to provide opportunities to tribal artisans to interact with the discerning urban customers to understand their preferences and tastes, it said.

TRIFED believes that the individual efforts of these tribal artisans need institutional support so that art and craft making activity can become a livelihood generating opportunity for the tribals. TRIFED initiated a new concept of organizing Tribal Artisan Mela (TAM) as an exercise to source tribal art and craft directly from the tribal artisans/ group of artisans.
 
Tribal artisans from Krishna, Nalgonda, Khammam and Ranga Reddy districts on Thursday put up a display of products made by them at a ‘mela' organised by the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry in coordination with Self Rural Empowerment & Educational Services Organization, Vijayawada and others.

                     The products on show at Eturnagaram include jewellery, dress material and bags. Girijana Cooperative Society DM Jogeswara Rao formally inaugurated the display with a call to tribal women to improve their skills and make better products for marketing by TRIFED. He said the products would be sent to New Delhi for test marketing and if found suitable exported. Jagadish Naik Bukya, Regional Manager (AP), TRIFED, said the organisation was running 28 showrooms across the country.
